 Pisa

The most famous landmark is the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and it is a must-visit location.  It goes without saying you need to pose holding up the tower for your Insta Story!

Don't miss trying a slice of "Pisa-style" pizza or the local specialty, torta co' bischeri, a sweet pie filled with chocolate and often served during festivals.

The streets of Pisa are lively, particularly around the university area. You can find plenty of cafes and shops where you can enjoy the local vibe.

Have time for dinner? Try the Ristorante Galileo, located in the center of town.  Traditional dishes are served in an old trattoria atmosphere.  A small group of friends dined there one evening and loved the food and the rustic charm; It was a top highlight of their trip!

Florence

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Florence is a city that pulsates with history, art, and culture. Often referred to as the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence is a treasure trove of masterpieces that attract millions of visitors each year. With its stunning architecture, vibrant atmosphere, and rich heritage, this Italian gem promises an unforgettable experience.

Florence is home of the Uffizi Gallery where you will see some of the world’s most important works of art, including pieces by Botticelli and Michelangelo. It is a paradise for art lovers, like my friend, John.  I know one thing, John doesn’t like to wait, and really who does?  To avoid unnecessary standing around, be sure to book your museum and gallery skip the line tickets well in advance of your arrival.

The Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral (in Italian Duomo di Firenze) is the beautiful cathedral completed in 1434 and is the most important landmark in Florence. The dome was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, and it dominates the skyline. I've heard climbing the 463 steps to the top offers an extraordinary view of Florence. I just might do that next year when I visit.

The famous Ponte Vecchio is a medieval stone arch bridge over the Arno river. Be sure to stop by for a quick photo opp and visit the shops to find unique art, jewelry and souvenirs.

After taking in all the art and culture Florence has to offer, be sure to stop by La Giostra for a bite to eat. This unique and romantic spot is a favorite among celebrities and famous for the pear ravioli. It is Florentine culinary excellence!

Tuscan Countryside

Our group of 15 decided to explore the rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive groves.  We were blessed with blue skies and sunshine and our private tour took us to San Gimignano, Siena, and Monteriggioni Castle.

Historic Monteriggioni Castle, a fortified city, is a small village famous for its walls and towers from the Middle Ages!   We didn’t spend a ton of time here, but I did manage to find an Italian leather purse to take home with me!

In Siena we strolled along the narrow winding streets and old row houses.  The Piazza del Campo is the focal point of this small city.  Here we had an amazing lunch and my youngest talked me into a two-pound steak for lunch. Ouch, that hurt the wallet, but he ate every bite!

My favorite of the three stops was San Gimignano.  The views from there overlooking the countryside were stunning. I had to pinch myself a couple of times to realize I was not dreaming.  I fell in love with everything I saw and decided I had to go back and spend more time.  I decided to host a group to the Tuscan region in September 2025.

Our guides made sure to tell us about the world famous gelato.  You will easily find this location because the line is out the door…
