Mallorca, Spain is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean. Mallorca is very small, about the size of Rhode Island, and it is gorgeous! Some say the capital city, Palma, is a lot like a small Barcelona. The architecture and tree lined streets are beautiful.
The turquoise waters and gorgeous beaches are one of the reasons Mallorca is considered a paradise. Sunning, swimming and snorkeling are very popular. Many decide to take a boat excursion to discover parts of the island that can only be accessed by boat.
Palma Cathedral (Le Seu) is a must-see when visiting Palma. The architecture is impressive with beautiful stained-glass windows and stunning views of the bay. Or you may want to visit Bellver Castle, a unique circular castle dates back to the 14th century and offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding areas. It's an excellent spot for history buffs and photographers alike.
Many consider the scenic train ride from Palma to Soller, one of the highlights of visiting Mallorca. Soller is a picturesque town located in the northwest part of the island. The views of rugged landscape, rural areas and clear blue skies is breathtaking. Plaza de la Constitución, is the vibrant main square in Soller surrounded by cafes, restaurants and shops. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy a coffee or a traditional Majorcan snack before heading back to Palma.
What to Eat?
Palma boasts a vibrant food scene. Try local dishes like paella, sobrasada (cured sausage), and ensaimada (pastry). Tapas bars are also a fun way to sample various flavors.
A famous landmark in Palma is Forn des Teatre. The bakery was founded in the 19th century and was restored in 1916. The bakery items are amazing, but you can also enjoy light meals and tapas. There is even a selection of local wines and liqueurs.
